Samsung Galaxy Ace Review

Samsung Galaxy Ace is a beautiful looking handset with rounded rectangle shape and curved edges. It comes in black and white combination, black from the front panel and white from the back cover/panel.

It is having large TFT display of 3.5-inches covered with Gorilla Glass, and it has 3 buttons below the screen, first key is of call picking and middle key is for accessing the menu and the last key is for reverting back to previously opened task.

It is a bar touchscreen phone, no external keypad is there, but it has virtual QWERTY keyboard and packed with Android 2.2 Froyo OS with TouchWiz v3.0 UI.  You can upgrade the OS of Samsung Galaxy Ace to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The phone weighs 113 grams.

Talking about the internal memory of the phone, that it is not sufficient because it has only 158 MB inbuilt storage. It can be expanded with the support of microSD card upto 32GB.

For connectivity, it is having 3G network support, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hotspot feature.

Why to miss the camera feature, it is sported with 5 MP camera added LED Flash and support image resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. It do NOT have secondary camera but do not supports video calling.

Overall the phone is leashed with all the basic features of smartphone.

Motorola Defy Review

Motorola Defy is the strong contender against Samsung Galaxy Ace, this handset looks wider than Ace because it is having 3.7-inches WVGA touchscreen. This handset is also an Android OS based, it comes with Android 2.1 Éclair which is older but no need to worry, its Froyo update has already been released in UK and soon it will be available for India too. You can upgrade it to Android 2.2 Froyo.

MOTOBLUR UI is integrated with Android OS for making user-experience better and delighting. This phone is also known as rugged phone because this phone is specially built for fighting against dust and water, I mean this handset is made dust-proof and water-resistant by sealing the handset’s body with rubber cover for the headphone socket and USB port and its screen is made from Gorilla Glass, which is scratch-resistant and impact-resistant.

The performance of Motorola Defy is powered by 800 MHz processor and its in-built virtual QWERTY keyboard is added with Swype technology.

The inbuilt memory of the phone is 2GB which is quite sufficient in comparison with Samsung Galaxy Ace. It can be expanded with microSD card support upto 32GB.

For connectivity features, it is fuelled with 3G network support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot.

Coming towards the camera and photography, Motorola Defy is driven with 5 MP LED Flash camera and offer image resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Same as Ace, it also do not have secondary camera.

    Thanks for your query.

  9. hi
    reading ur previous comment
can we decipher that htc wildfire s is a better phone than defy and ace
should i also go for wildfire s
    Sumit

  10. hi…
i just wanted to say that how come ace is better???…i have some points to make:
    1. Defy has a brilliant WVGA(480×854) display as compared to Ace’s HVGA(320×480) display.
    2. Defy has almost double the ram in ace. Defy has 512mb as compared to 278mb on the ace.
3.Defy has a much louder speeker and its call quality is also brilliant.
    4.It has a better battery.
5.Defy’s 800MHz Cortex-A8 processor is much better tha Ace’s 800Mhz ARM11…if you have any doubt ..you can check the benchmark tests….

Also it is much more rugged than Ace….it will last you much longer…

  11. hi…
could anyone help me on which phone is better considering all aspects (hardware, gaming, RAM, ROM,etc…..) – motorola defy( without motoblur , since in india) or samsung galaxy ace???
is motoblur really useful or useless??

  12. hi…
could anyone help me on which phone is better considering all aspects (hardware, gaming, RAM, ROM,etc…..) – motorola defy( without motoblur , since in india) or samsung galaxy ace???
is motoblur really useful or useless??

AND does defy lag more than ace or is it the opposite??

  13. Punit Kumar says:

I just wanted to point one thing.
Samsung Galaxy Ace does not support Adobe Flash.
And if I am not wrong, there are also issues with Mozilla Firefox Browser.

  14. megaconjuror says:

buy the galaxy ace at your own peril, lest you be hounded by the ‘sleep of death’ issue. i returned my phone after being plagued by this issue which crept up barely a month after having bought it; if you are lucky, the issue will surface immediately, and you will be spared the rigmarole of visits to the service centre. this condition appears to afflict most galaxy ace handsets, and i have read many a complaint…

else, nothing really wrong with the phone, apart from the terrible quality of video recording, sad speakerphone and very, very average battery life…

  15. megaconjuror says:

    Hi Mridul,

I’d like to know what you think…

I used a MotoRizr for 4 trouble-free years, before going in for the Ace and its unsolvable ‘sleep of death’ condition. The Defy is tempting, but the only aspect keeping me at bay is the support/service system in India.

    Thanks!

  16. I think defy is. overall better than ace i want to know whether defy supports adobe flash and its price in india

  17. dude.. u are just giving the wrong option.. wildfire doesnt match with ace or the defy in any way.. just that it has good looks.. Motorola defy is the best choice among the three whn u look performance wise.. ace has a little better battery life than the other two.. you can go for the wildfire s if you are really obsessed with the looks and want it.

  18. yes it does.. defy can be bought online at a price around 14800.

  19. performance wise defy is better than the ace but it doesnt have a pleasing look like the ace. if you are happy with the look of the mobile.. you can surely go for it.
motoblur is just shit though.. :/ defy doesnt lag while playing games evn..

  20. all the specs are right dude.. except the battery life.. ace has a slightly better battery backup..

sir wat u think about lg optimus black..? Plz suggest ..saurabh gureja

  24. no dont go for ace if u r a bit of gamer…it supports basic androif game lik racing moto, fruit ninja etc asphalt 5,assasin creed like hd games r not supported by ace and galaxy y too…it pixel resolution is very low somewhr around 180 ppi..it means the display is not so crisp as in defy which has 265 ppi :)
the internal memory of defy is 2 GB which is >>>>>>>>> 160 mb in ace…the defys screen is 3.7 inch > 3.5 inch in ace…only the camera in ace is good (though both have 5 mp) as i have seen both…defys processor is really good (powervgx) which supports many hd games ..but ace is adreno 200 only…pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese dont go for wild fire..its processor is worst…htc is waste company..only its body is attractive ..tats all…600mhz processor will lead to lot of lag which irritates like anything…all the best…go for defy :) u will not regret :)

  25. Hello…
I was bit confused between ace and defy… but ma doubts are cleared to a greater extent…
After reading this review, seems like DEfY is overall a better piece of tech then any other phone in this range…
But the only thing stopping me from buying this phone is MOTOROLA’s service Center and No Gingerbread upgrade….
Is DEFY froyo good enough in front of the Gingerbread ACE…
And please comment on the Motorola Service Centre….
