Nowadays, smartphones are not bought on the basis of only looks, size, color, camera or touchscreen but the operating system has a huge importance on the sales of a particular phone. Mobile operating systems are the things which people always look for. The most famous operating systems are undoubtedly Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Blackberry OS. To make sure that their OS don’t become old and stagnate, updates are made to their platforms which gives the user more open choices but at the same time confuses him/her.

All of these operating systems are dominating the world and there is very high competition between them. 1. iOS 5

Apple is the most desired company in the world. It sells its products at high costs and yet have a so large fan base. All its products have its own operating system which is known as iOS. Recently, the 5th version of iOS was released. Here are some great features of this OS.

  • Apps: “There is an app for anything”. A huge number of apps are available in the app store of Apple. Some paid apps and some free apps. All kinds of apps are available. So, anything you need, search in the app store and you may find it.
  • Game Center: Track your scores and upload it on the internet. Many games will let you earn achievements which are tracked by the Game Center itself. This would really make gaming on iPhone better than ever.
  • iWork: Are you familiar to Microsoft Office? It is a very useful tool for people who work in office and need to get some office work done quick. iWork is Apple’s own office suite which put presentations, documents and spreadsheets in your pocket.
  • iCloud: iCloud is another Apple program which stores all your mail, contacts, calendars, apps, iTunes downloads and documents. You can simply back it up anytime or transfer it to another Apple device.

On 19th October, the first phone(Samsung Galaxy Nexus) with Android 4.0 was announced. Here are some great features.

  • Face Unlock: Have you ever felt burdened because of remembering password for your phone? If yes, then Android 4.0 has come with a feature which lets you unlock your phone quickly. Just switch on your phone and look into the camera.
  • Task Manager: The smartphones let people multi task easily and Android 4.0 has a feature which makes multi-tasking as easier as it can be. The task manager. It makes life a lot of easier if you are using many apps.
  • Voice Typing: Typing is much easier when you don’t actually type. You speak and Android recognizes and converts the text which lets you search, send messages, etc. without the need of typing.
  • Updated Contacts Interface: The contacts interface has been made more better and efficient. Looks are totally great. This new look puts people’s important information, including social networking updates, in one place.

Devices supported: As of now, Samsung Galaxy Nexus only. It will be available for several devices from January 2012.

3. Windows Phone 7.5

Windows Phone 7.5 is also known as Mango. Microsoft is yet another big company looking for good results. They have tried their best to make Windows Phone the best mobile operating system. It is stylish, edgy and attractive. The latest update has tons of features. Let’s know about them.

  • The Metro Look: Maybe the best thing Windows Phone has. The great metro look which has the beautiful tiles which let you know about the updates such as missed calls, messages, etc.
  • Xbox Live: Xbox Live is a kind of social network for Xbox users. Wouldn’t it be great to have your Xbox Live in your pocket. The Xbox Live is already installed on Windows Phones which makes it easier for you to earn and spend your Xbox Live points on the go.

  • Social Feeds: Social Feeds is a great feature which makes it easy to gather more information of your social network friends, RSS feeds, etc. You may require such info and can get it easily by social feeds.
  • Voice Search: The feature just like Android 4.0. Just like in Android, this feature lets you search, send messages or enter text without typing. Just say what you want to search and Blackberry will recognize it.
  • New Powerful Browser: Accessing web from your smart phone is what no body can ever miss. To make that web-accessing easier and faster, Blackberry has updated their browser which has improved page load times, HTML video support, Javascript performance, etc.

The above operating systems are undoubtedly the best in the market for now but which is the best of them all? The question will be solved today. All of the operating systems have good features. In design and elegance, iOS 5 and Windows Phone 7.5 is neck to neck. The less devices support for iOS 5 and Blackberry OS 7 may make it special but at the same time, restricts its availability. Android is currently the top mobile operating system. Windows Phone 7.5 is getting more and more phones to support it and make it more famous.

Winner: It was very difficult to choose a winner. This time, I would like to choose Android 4.0 because it is from Google and we all know how awesome Google is. Also, Android has tons of features to entertain the user. It is no doubt the best mobile operating system.

    Dude it’s difficult to choose the best out of these 4 as u said !!! but according to me IOS 5 is the best OS present till now , android 4.0 can ever match to it !!! btw it’s available nly in Google nexus right now , so the number of users may be low too but not the same case in IOS 5 , as it has millions of users!!! The apps in IOS 5 are better than android :):) Unless u experience it , u can’t realize i feel!!!

  8. Well, as of now, it isn’t making much good profit for Nokia and that’s why they have made a change to Windows Phone. After that, how can it remain in the top mobile operating systems list? It was good but now it doesn’t stand a chance before these four OS.
