Recently, the pricing of Apple iPhone 4S was revealed. People expected the starting price to be around Rs. 35,000 but it actually turned out to be Rs. 44,500 which is just Rs. 2,400 less than the top model(3G+Wi-Fi 64GB) of Apple iPad 2, one of the best tablets in the market. Apple iPhone 4S is undoubtedly the best iPhone ever but the Indian price has made it quite impossible for the Indians to buy this phone. To see full price on Apple iPhone 4S, click here.
This huge pricing has made some Indians think that the money they saved for iPhone 4S, can be utilized by buying a tablet. And then the question comes “Which is Worth: A Tablet or Overpriced iPhone 4S”.
Tablets are usually 7-inch or 9-inch. Some are 10.1 inch and those can even compete with most netbooks. Now, when you bring a 7.0 inch screen with a 3.5 inch screen, iPhone 4S wouldn’t be able to do much.
For example, HTC Flyer is a 7 inch tab which can be purchased around Rs. 24,000 which is 20.5K lesser than iPhone 4S 16 GB model. Really, did Apple really compare it with any device before setting that price.
Tablets are bigger than iPhone 4S definitely so they require bigger processor which is at least 1.2 or 1.5 GHz. iPhone 4S processor is 1GHz and A5 chipset which is more than enough to handle powerful Apple phones. As said above, most tablets have a 1.2 or 1.5 Ghz processor which is quite enough to handle the processes fastly. So, here iPhone 4S is worth the money.
Winner: iPhone 4S
This is where iPhone 4S is very powerful. It has a 8 megapixels camera with auto-focus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection and more. Secondary camera is VGA. Full High Definition video recording is available. When we come to tablets, there isn’t much to look forward in the camera section.
Most tablets come with a 3.15 megapixels rear camera and a VGA or 2 megapixels front camera. This is where some tablets lack and iPhone 4S totally excels.
Winner: iPhone 4S
Tablets usually come in two models: 16 GB and 32 GB. Some tablets come with 64 GB model as well. Apple, as always, launched three models of Apple iPhone 4S: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. There isn’t much to compare between the memory as both tabs and iPhone 4S have good memory options.
In this category, I would like to tell about the one huge drawback of tablets. Unable to make phone calls. India is undoubtedly moving forward in tech field but yet, not everybody has a tab which can let them video chat with each other. iPhone 4S has the ability to make the user do both phone call and video call(Facetime). That makes it quite a bit better on one more part.
Winner: iPhone 4S
Well, well, well! This is the thing which actually brought this post into making. The price of iPhone 4S is so overpriced that it crosses the price of some best tablets available in the market. I was unable to believe the prices when they were first revealed. Starting from Rs. 44K and ending on Rs. 57K, I do not imagine many Indians spending so much on a mobile phone.
The very famous assistant of iPhone 4S, Siri may not be what it actually is because of the varieties of accents spoken in India. Is it really worth the price? On the other hand, most awesome tablets cost from Rs. 30K to Rs. 40 or 45K. I don’t think there is any tablet costing more than 50K or 57K which makes them less expensive than the iPhone 4S.
I do think that iPhone 4S is the best iPhone ever but when it comes to its price, I really don’t think that even the best iPhone is worth that much of hard-earned money. On the other hand, most people don’t really need a tablet because of the absence of voice call feature. Apple iPhone 4S may be the best choice of a phone right now, but the price just makes the people think the other way around.
What I think is, if you are interested in both tablets and iPhone 4S, you should go for iPad 2 16 GB Wi-Fi + 3G which costs around Rs. 36,500. If you have saved around Rs. 45K, you can get a respectable Android phone or a fine entry-level Blackberry. iPad 2 can give you all you want from iPhone 4S except Siri and Blackberry or a fine Android phone would make your phoning experience better or at-least keep it at a good level.
Buy iPad 2 16 GB Wi-Fi+3G which costs Rs, 36,500. Buy a good company smart phone for around Rs. 8K to Rs. 9K.
